The contest has ended. Congratulations Brad, the winner of the free book!
Clark Howard has dedicated his life to helping millions of Americans learn how to “save more, spend less, and avoid getting ripped off.” Through his radio talk show (aired in Orlando on WDBO), his TV show on HLN, and his books, Clark is the undisputed champion in the fight for keeping more money in our wallets. If you’re like me (and I know I am), you’ve asked yourself on many occasions, “What Would Clark Do”?
Now you’ll know, through Clark’s newly released book,
“Clark Howard’s Living Large in Lean Times: 250+ Ways to Buy Smarter, Spend Smarter, and Save Money”.
This book is a reference book that belongs on the shelves of anyone who earns a paycheck or struggles with making ends meet. Even if you are not having to stretch your paycheck to keep the lights on, “Living Large In Lean Times” is for anyone who wants to uncover ways to cut expenses and save more money each month.
Normally Clark would tell you to read his books by checking them out at the library, but I’ll have to disagree with him on this one. This is a book you need to own. This book needs to be kept handy, not stuffed away on some bookshelf. Better yet, keep your checkbook as the bookmark in this book, so every time you have to write a painful check, you’ll be reminded to look for more ways to save.
There are over 250 tips and ideas plus over 250 website resources on nearly every area of finance. He covers subjects from banking and investing, to buying a home and getting a mortgage, to saving big on razor blades and prescription eyeglasses.
Here’s a sample of some of Clark’s tips from the book that I’ve personally put into practice in our family:
- Cutting the cord when it comes to cable and satellite television and replacing it by bringing back the rabbit ears (you’ll get the best quality HD picture available with an antenna!) and subscribing to Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and others. We’ve never had cable as a family. We currently subscribe to Netflix and Hulu Plus, and stream movies on our TV through the Xbox 360, and on our iPad and iPod Touches.
- Firing your contract cell phone provider and switch to a no-contract cell phone plan. In our house we switched our 3 cell phones from AT&T (2 iphones and a non-smartphone) to the LG Optimus Android on Virgin Mobile and are saving over $100 a month! Check out our post about how we did it.
Clark’s tip for drastically improving the life of any razor blade has proven to work for us!
We followed Clark’s advice when we purchase our home last year. As a result, we have a terrific mortgage and got a steal on on the house we purchased last year.
Whether it’s buying a used car, buying a computer, shopping and staying safe online, funding your child’s education, navigating health care and insurance choices, saving while banking and investing, or planning that big trip, purchasing Clark Howard’s “Living Large in Lean Times” is a no brainer.
UPDATE: The contest has ended. Congrats Brad!
